Dominica - Palé Kwéyòl exceeds all expectations

Thanks to the Youth of Dominica, UNESCO and numerous other partners, Dominicans can say today that the Kwéyòl culture, particularly the language, is on the path to restoration. The Palé Kwéyòl project, which was designed to teach the Kwéyòl language and culture, has been successfully implemented, exceeding the expectations of many.

Dominica-Seychelles - Kwéyòl Exchange Program 2006

The idea for an exchange between the islands of Dominica and Seychelles was suggested by Jahisiah Benoit in an article posted on the UNESCO Small Islands Voice website. The article was written in response to an article by a student from the Seychelles regarding the preservation of the Kwéyòl culture. They discovered that their islands shared a common vision for the preservation of the Kwéyòl culture and that both islands celebrated their Kwéyòl festivals during the month of October. Following this, youth from both islands exchanged ideas and suggestions on actuating the idea.

Jamaica - Photovoice: My Island through My Eyes

Photovoice projects have covered many themes such as safety on school grounds, children dealing with violence in communities, and women's health issues. The photographs that are produced through photovoice projects document actual realities that people see and deal with on a daily basis.

San Andres - Role Playing Game: My Island Home

Young people from Star Teen and The Rebels youth group in San Andres developed a role playing game, 'My Island Home', to create awareness among native islanders of the impact of development on their islands. The game forms part of a larger series of activities to encourage the community in taking action through 'Best Management Practices' to protect their island environment.
